The caustic soda lye is used to make soap. It is also known as sodium hydroxide and has the chemical formula of NaOH. Lye reacts with the fats in oils to produce an opaque or cloudy, hard soap. It is all consumed in the chemical reaction and none remains once soap is produced. 98.5% minimum purity is required. The size is 500g, 1kg or 5L. The lye is dangerous and should be handled with care. It should also be noted that this is not a food grade product and is not suitable for making food.
